Well, another day another build. Was approached by a client to create a 1080p PUBG machine. Being unfamiliar with requirements, I went to research. Needless to say... wow that game is unoptimized. Even Fenrir couldn't keep sub 60 dips at Ultra 1080! But seeing the average from Fenrir... I figured the 1060 would be the sweet spot (thank you crypto-currency :/)

So, went for a white-out system with flair. Build went par for the course. AM4 bracket missing (happens a LOT), Memory instability without tuning, NVME boot loop until BIOS update on mobo... yah. Love a new platform when it's all up and running!

Customer picked up with stock cooler installed. AIO to be installed later. Demo'ed right in front of him with PUBG Ultra and saw dips to 40's. Hit Medium, never dipped below 55 (Per Riva tuner). Customer is coming from a first gen i5 and Radeon 7850... so this is a massive improvement. Enjoy the photo's!

Part Reviews

Nothing that hasn't been said about Ryzen. Great Price to performance, support is ever growing and easy to bump up just a little bit. Great new CPU AMD, welcome back.

CPU Cooler

1 Star off for no AM4 bracket. Other than that seemed like a well built cooler and would have been 2 points off if not for the amazing customer service received when inquiring. Deepcool has my continued business just because of support.

Well featured Micro ATX board... and not many other Micro White choices ;)

Have had great luck with TEAM products, price is great and XMP always works... albeit sometimes a little looser than my liking. But great RAM if looking for just a splash of color and not wanting to pay for RGB

Almost par with my HyperX Predator synthetically. Very nice little drive and other than boot loop on old BIOS, very stable. Also great price to performance

Video Card

OK, so this was about the ONLY card design I would consider in this theme, and thank jiminey Newegg had some... stupid crypto-craze... About $80 more than I would normally pay, but 1070 was too far a jump for the budget.

Great finish, amazing cable opportunities and the Tempered glass and LED front make this a premium case for Average $. Great job Inwin, great job. Customer was stunned that this was going to be his.

Power Supply

Would have preferred Gold rated, but budget means sacrifice. Also, this specific series has done well so far, Let's hope it continues!

Case Fan

Need the LEDS (well... for vanity sake) and airflow as the Inwin 301 has no included fans. Just bright enough to see through the smoked panel and not so bright they annoy when nearby. But word to wise, when mounted up front the LED's drown out the Inwin's Blue LED for front panel as they shine right through.

good for streaming?? And this seems to get pretty hot, any recommendations to keep it cool?

ziggurat666 submitter 7 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Never attempted streaming this game, so can't verify. Terms of temps, this case has very little airflow from the front so the CPU is probably a bit starved, and this 1600 didn't OC well, so the voltage is a bit higher than I would like for this OC. The liquid cooler should solve that issue though.

In this case, intake is supposed to be at the bottom, exhaust is supposed to be at the back AND front. Without buying anything, I would put your 2 fans at the bottom and check temps again. That should shave off some degrees.

Otherwise, love the look. =)

alright dood, thank you

This game streams quite well even on 6 cores, depending on your birate it is easily achievable

I am planning to build a very similar configuration, but with 8 GB of RAM 3000 MHz and without SSD, what do you think about it? Then in the future I would add another 8 GB and a SSD.

ziggurat666 submitter 7 Builds 2 points 18 months ago

RAM will get by but, just for sake of ease, I would go SSD first then go HDD after for extra storage if budget allows. Easier to pick up a TB or two later than reformat and transfer OS in my opinion.

KeplersSomnium 1 point 18 months ago

Thanks for the response! Also, do you think there is much difference between SSD and M.2? I am choosing between Sandisk 240 GB SSD and WD Blue 240 M.2, and is not much difference in price.

Fraglepuss 2 Builds 2 points 18 months ago

M.2 is just the shape of the drive, they could both be the same speed. M.2 is good because it's small.

NVME drives are also normally m.2. These are much faster. Look at the 960 evo by Samsung, if you want a big step up from a sata ssd

ziggurat666 submitter 7 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

that specific M.2 while nice for saving space will not give you any further benefits over a SATA SSD in terms of speed. The 960 Evo M.2 for example uses x4 PCI-e lanes, whereas the WD Blue only uses x1. The WD Black like what I used is a faster SSD, hence the use of it over a traditional SSD. Also, research San Disk SSD's Thoroughly and the Benchmarks IOPS and 4K Read/Write matter a little more in real world than raw speeds. Explained here

KeplersSomnium 1 point 18 months ago

Thank you for the information and the video! I looked at the video and search about 960 EVO, and looks great. The con is that is really out of my wallet :(

ziggurat666 submitter 7 Builds 2 points 18 months ago

Then for now (unless wanting to save space) get the 2.5" drive, not the M.2. Best of luck bud and if anything else let me know! Love helping other's build

Can you tell me if the reported 38 degrees idle is with the liquid cooler, or with the stock air cooler? I just build a similar system with a AMD 5 1600 and CAPTAIN 120EX, and am getting 38 degrees idle, which I have a feeling is high for a liquid cooler. I don't know enough about it to be sure though :P

ziggurat666 submitter 7 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

With the air cooler. And I realized I used the Ryzen Master software, RealTemp reported 26 idle, 22 (ambient) with the Deepcool

MrAdam 1 point 17 months ago

Thanks! I'm running with an idle of around 26 as well, and an average of 28.8 for light browsing and YouTube - should be working fine then. For some reason the BIOS reported 10 degrees above what HWiNFO64 does :-/

Hi, can you post the photo after you have installed the 120 aio cpu cooler. Thanks.
