This is my second build after I completing my 2013 computer which has been upgraded several times and is still a quick and capable machine. My first build was intended to sit in my living room as quietly and unobtrusively as possible, while this build was meant to make it totally clear that this is not a PC for cramming into an entertainment center, it is a computer that is meant to crush my previous benchmarks and push enough FPS to melt my face - and it's meant to look like it too. If that means sticking all sorts of RGB lights and braided cables all over it then so be it. I like the flexibility of RGB to change the lighting profile per game, or turn it off entirely for more of that stealth look or videos. I also like the tempered glass because it motivates me to keep it free from dust.
The build itself was uneventful enough, but the motherboard and H115i AIO radiator and fans were too close to each other and I had to remove a heat shield from the VRM. The RAM that I picked fits with about 3 mm to spare between them and the H115i fans so that was close too.
I was unimpressed with the amount of cable management space on the back of this case, but part of that is due to the custom cable lengths that come in Corsair's pro cable kit. If they were shorter there would have been less cables to manage. After browsing the completed builds on here, I think a Lian Li type case with more air flow options and cable management space will be my choice on the next build.
The second M.2 slot on this particular MSI motherboard under the heat shield is inaccessible due to the screws on the heat shield being absurdly tight. I ended up stripping one of them trying to remove the heat shield and ultimately decided to use a PCIE adapter for another M.2 should I decide to add another later. It is frustrating to only have 1/2 of my M.2 slots available though and I wish MSI had better quality control so I could use both.
I ran a SLI setup with a second RTX2080ti ftw3 hybrid using the NVlink for a while but did not see meaningful enough results to warrant the price. Additionally, the second 120mm radiator from both hybrid graphics cards needed to be installed in a configuration that pulled warm air into the case rather than exhausting hot air out. The second graphics card did very little to FPS in actual games (especially if SLI isn't supported, like RDR 2) and seriously increased my thermals. I cannot recommend SLI based on my personal experiences. I did bench over 22k in TimeSpy with them though, so that was fun.
I overclocked the CPU to 5Ghz and have that profile saved in my OC profiles in the BIOS. After lots of experimentation, I discovered that a 4.8Ghz boost is more effective for thermals, power usage, and the 5Ghz overclock has negligible benefits over 4.8Ghz, therefore I am running 4.8 on a daily basis.
Overall I could not be more happy with this build. I plan to either liquid cool this PC or my next build. I am happy with the thermals and noise right now using the two AIO components I have now so I will probably wait until my next build to experiment with a custom loop.
