Description

This is a build I put together for a friend, however I now wish I had this as my own!

What Went Well: • MSI back at it again with the high quality, no BS products. Best mobo and GPU I could ask for. Perfect VRM cooling on the mobo, amazing GPU performance.

• I am amazed by the performance of the i9-9900ks. Doesn't break a sweat. Corsair's H150i is also a beast, so quiet yet it's got amazing cooling for an AIO. Only trouble was that it was hard to assemble as the manual wasn't very descriptive.

• EVGA, another amazing PSU. No complaints.

What didn't go well: • Holy crap Corsair, this case was SO hard to build in. It was like an emotional rollercoaster building in this case, the glass door back of the case means that cable management has to be SUPER tight in order for it to fully close. More room next time.

Overall, as traumatic as building a $3k PC was (I had to unbend so many pins and almost broke the case about 4 times) it was so worth it.

Part Reviews

CPU

Pre-overclocked CPU? Heck yeah. I'm sure many experienced overclockers are eyerolling at the KS but if you're an extremely anxious builder like me, it's perfect knowing that this has been professionally overclocked.

CPU Cooler

CPU Cold? ✔ Quiet? ✔ Simple to install? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I've never built a PC with an AIO before, but I had attempted to install this incorrectly about 3 times before I got it right despite reading the manual. Luckily reddit saved me from breaking the entire thing. Still gets a 5 star purely because of how well this thing preforms.

Thermal Compound

It makes a huge difference. So easily to apply, impossible to mess up.

Just smother the CPU in a small layer of this stuff, bam you're ice cold.

Motherboard

I love it, great easy to use MSI bios. Supports essentially every type of RAM. 1 star taken off only because the pins (specifically USB 3.0 pins) were so easily bent. However it was also super easy to unbend, so we're both lucky.

Memory

I got the RGB version of this as it was cheaper and there was more stock. Perfect, sexy and fast.

Storage

IT IS FAST. F.A.S.T.

0.5 second boot time. Explains it all.

I can press the power button on this build and it instantly boots to windows, no loading. Amazing.

Storage

Fast, quiet and easy.

Only problem with this is that Windows refused to detect it until I rescanned it in disk manager about 4 times.

Video Card

Better RGB than the Strix, amazing cooling and fantastic performance. This thing just ripped 3DMark apart, couldnt of picked a better card.

Case

I really wanna give it 4 stars, but this case essentially gave me PTSD from the amount of times I nearly broke it.

Poor thought in cable management as the door on the back side wont fully shut it you have a large cable routed through. I practically had to suffocate my mobo psu cable for the door to shut.

Power Supply

Didn't blow up, good quality cables. Easy to route. EVGA. Hotel. Trivago.

brother im just going to suggest that you might want to get a different mouse (razer deathadder ect.) cause i had a harpoon rgb and two months into use the sensor started going funny and the mouse feet start to peel off.

Very true, I'm going to replace it soon. My sensor isn't too bad but the grips on the side have melted off after only about 4 months of use (my hands don't really sweat either so idk why they have)

I've always heard about how good the deathadder is, should I just get that?

You could, but i have always found it to big and thick. The proportions just dont seem right. I recommend the g502 se, it normally goes for around 35.

yeah i would definitely recommend it and the cooler master mm710.

Saved some money and bought a deathadder, a 144hz monitor along with a new mousemat and it made a huggge difference. I swear my kills in CS:GO have gone up by like 30%, thanks for the suggestion :)

Is that Horizon Zero Dawn? Thought it was PS4 exclusive?

Just an image of it aha, it was super late in the day when I took those images and the wifi was super slow for some reason meaning I couldnt install any games quickly so to make it look more natural I just full screened the 1st result for "gaming screenshot"

I'm lazy I'm sorry :)

I'm copying most of your build to be honest. I'm wondering if there is anything you would change if you were to do it again?

[P.S If you're wanting the i9-9900KS it's probably cheapest from here, I looked forever when I did this build: https://siliconlottery.com/collections/coffeelake-r/products/9900ks50g]

It's an outstanding build but there's some things I'd change

The case for 2 reasons:

  1. Corsair claims you can mount the H150i on the top of the case however the bracket that is preinstalled won't work with it. However at the front of the case (front panel), the preinstalled bracket there supports it, so you need to swap it around which was easy. But it took me so long to figure that out!

  2. You need to think about cable management constantly as the glass door on the back won't shut unless everything is super tight. It's annoying because you really have to use cable ties for this and there's a risk you'll need to change something before you're done and you will need to snip all of the ties off. (I did this when I didn't install my IO shield correctly lol)

CPU: The Intel Core i9-9900KS is the best gaming CPU out there with an advantage being its clock speed, but if you are more of a creative worker or need multi-threaded performance get the AMD Ryzen™ 9 3950X instead if you have the money. In most games, it won't perform as good as the i9 but it's so much better for rendering and multi-threaded tasks.

Very nice build, I was looking at the 500D myself until I saw how difficult people are saying it is to build in. Unfortunate. Again though, great build!
