[Update] The stream is over - thanks everyone for joining us! If you missed it live, you can watch a replay on Twitch or YouTube. We've also posted some bonus footage showing some overclocking benchmarks as well as configuration options for the motherboard.

**[Update 2] We've created a Completed Build with more pictures and benchmarks.

Join us Thursday, June 16 at 2pm Central time for our weekly live stream on Twitch. This week we have the new MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard and GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8GB video card to put together a high end VR gaming system.

We'll build the system and run it through some quick tests using the HTC Vive. Special thanks to MSI for providing the motherboard and GPU for this week's build!

Damn that is going to be a sexy build. Maybe I could "borrow" it.

TechyinAZ 14 Builds 4 points 18 months ago

Borrowing would be hard. For me it's either don't own it or own it entirely. :D

Are pictures of this still coming?

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Which pictures were you looking for? We posted footage of the final build with and without it's side panel and a couple close ups in the Bonus video (watch at the very end).

dommoass 4 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

thanks - I think Ryan mentioned in the Twitch stream there would be pictures of the finished build with the side-panel. The bonus vid is what I was after though :)

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Per request, you can see a completed build with even more images and some extra benchmark results here:

Enjoy!

I've decided to build my first computer and decided to build this one. I'm kind of a noob, so sorry for some dumb questions.

I'm hooking this up to my tv. Does the tower have to stay standing straight up or can it lay flat, with the glass screen up like a ps4 or Xbox? Since it's going on my tv entertainment stand I'm pressed for space.

Rashaadbell 1 point 17 months ago

Another question, if I buy every part you guys have listed, is that all I need or is there anything else like cables or wires that I need to get as well?

yahookingjoe 1 point 15 months ago

I'm looking to build a vr flight simulator. I think this build will work well for me. The only thing I would like to change is the gpu. Would I be able to change it to a sea hawk closed loop? Would I be able to put the radiator where the rear exhaust fan is? Should I put it somewhere else? I don't plan on over clocking too much, maybe in the future. I just want it to be quiet and as maintenence free as possible.

This build looks amazing by the way. It has inspired me to build vs buy. Thank you for the help!

yahookingjoe 1 point 15 months ago

My apologies,

Is there room to add a second 1060? I ask because I would like to have a three monitor setup for both the flight sim, and video editing.

Again, thanks in advance for the help.

TwerkingShowerMan 0 points 17 months ago

Waay overkill for just VR I hope people don't use this as a reference.

yahookingjoe 0 points 14 months ago

Overkill for today's computing needs yes. How about three or five years down the road? If I can avoid it, I would rather not have to change anything in the coming years until I have to. I know computers and future proof are not things that go together, but it doesn't hurt to try. Still, your advice would be appreciated.

they should make one that looks like that but for z170s xD

mswdfw 1 point 17 months ago

so true

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Quite old, but...

Please don't compare a 1993 Craigslist Honda Civic to a high-end X99 motherboard, no matter how RGB / ugly it might be. =-)

But, the Z170 version is kinda ricey, I'll give you that.

Unless it has a colored PCB. That would be different.

Glad you're enjoying it -- with assorted summer vacations sneaking up on the PCPP staff, we're a bit behind on getting it edited and posted to YouTube. Hopefully should have it up there tomorrow along with some bonus content Ryan shot to show off the motherboard configuration and some overclocking.

Thanks -- it was a bit of an experiment to see how it might work, but glad you enjoyed it! If it turns out to be a popular option, we'll look at doing it more often.

If you don't mind me asking, who usually edits the videos, I'm guessing you or is it someone else?

It varies. I edited the last few we've posted. It's usually maclamby or myself in the editing room's hot seat these days, though Philip still hops in there from time to time when needed. :)

Perhaps you could put a link to the unedited live stream in the video description so that people could easily watch it if they so desired to.

Yep. Since this was the first time we were trying the highlight version, I had the same thought. You can find a link to the full version in the YouTube description as well as by using the Twitch link in the post above.
