Congrats to all the winners and thanks again to everyone who participated!

Update Jan 1, 2017: The entry period has ended. Thanks to everyone who entered! MSI is working to validate entries and will contact the winners soon to confirm eligibility. We'll update this post again once we have the winners list ready to announce!

Original Post:

Our friends at MSI want you to dream big this holiday season. Create a part list up to $3000 USD around your favorite MSI motherboard and graphics card, then they will select three random entrants to win their part list!

Enter here: MSI Pick Your Holiday Dream PC Giveaway

Your part list entry must include the following:

  • MSI Motherboard
  • MSI Video Card (limit 2)
  • CPU
  • CPU Cooler
  • Memory
  • Storage (HDD and/or SSD, multiple allowed)
  • Case
  • Power Supply

Additionally, your part list may include parts from these categories as well:

  • Monitor (limit 1)
  • Case fans
  • Accessories: Mouse, Keyboard, and headphones

The part list must show as compatible on PCPartPicker. No other part categories or custom parts will be allowed and all parts must have prices listed via PCPartPicker (no custom prices). Total part list price for your entry must not exceed $3000 after shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts. Reasonable consideration will be given for minor price fluctuations after submitting your entry.

Pick your parts carefully before submitting, as an invalid part list will be disqualified and you cannot change your part list after submitting your entry.

Winners will be drawn at random from all valid entries. The giveaway is open to all regions, except where prohibited or restricted by law. Must be at least 18 years old to enter. Entry period ends December 31, 2016 at 11:59 PM (PST). See the giveaway page for complete rules, terms and conditions.

A big thanks to MSI for putting this great giveaway together!

Good Luck everyone!

jedi5200 1 point 10 months ago

still waiting to see if I have luck (from the NZXT giveaway)! :)

LatamirDigital 3 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

Can we add two CPU coolers by any chance (There isn't a limit number on the coolers but I'm just checking :D)

Bloodkiller117 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

So its completely random not based on what kind of build or what it would look like

jsmith72437 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks!!! I hope luck is in my favor!!!!

ChocolateLovin69 0 points 10 months ago

so i unknowingly submitted what wasn't a permalink but just a url to a saved parts list that was later deleted. anything that can be done for an idiot like myself?

souleet MSI 1 point 10 months ago

Try to reenter again?

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 10 months ago

only one entry per account as you must know. and making a second account for a giveaway feels dirty plus might it have other implications. i tried messaging their fb page but they said nothing could be done once i submitted something even if it was a flub. on the bright side this issue lead me to discover the other daily contests you guys are having through out the next two weeks. great stuff that you guys are so giving this season!

souleet MSI 2 points 9 months ago

We will give out more stuff in 2017! Make sure you stay connected to our Facebook.

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 9 months ago

lol will do. thanks for trying to help and for having all these awesome contests!

Hey MSI dude, how about ODD? and Speakers. How about HUE+

souleet MSI 3 points 10 months ago

No odd and no speakers.

bengy22 3 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

if my parts list says that my motherboard might need a bios update is that ok?

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 3 points 9 months ago

That's fine.

wackazoa 1 point 10 months ago

Do past winners get to win again? I mean Jipster is pretty much the most popular guy here so if there is a peoples pick he is pretty much a shoe in for it again.

*Not that Im angry, far from it. Insanely jealous about the set ups dude is gonna have in the next 2 years based on giveaway winnings pretty much sums it up. :)

ziggurat666 7 Builds 9 points 10 months ago

Winners will be drawn at random from all valid entries.

Nope, full on luck

wackazoa 3 points 10 months ago

But Jipster could still win... right? So say he has great "luck" this year, I still would be jealous of him.

Gentleman00 2 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

I don't think so....

The part list must show as compatible on PCPartPicker Oyy, something's invalid...

That is best partlist I have ever seen. You may experience a slight bottleneck on that cpu but it will be virtually unnoticeable.

But srsly half the build is a monitor....

I'm just loving the fact that your listed build spends $70 on fans, and also spends $70 for the cpu and hard drive combined... Thoroughly entertained.

Gross! Someone chose two RX480's over a GTX 1080. What a shame! Waste of giveaway money. I want a refund.

Murphdog95 2 points 9 months ago

Right? the only dude (in my opinion of course, no hate intended to the winners) that got it right was the one that did an x99 build

teambronze5 1 point 9 months ago

I was so sad. I'm glad others agree! I honestly thought this would generate a lot of hate haha

Murphdog95 1 point 9 months ago

With any luck, and a good bit of funding, my future build will be too. I am a gaming enthusiast on the budget of a homeless man xD

AceKill26 1 point 9 months ago

Yeah most of all saving money, specially if you live in a country in wich every single pc component is double the price and import is not an option since its like +$200 for shipping... Argentina (-_-)

AceKill26 1 point 9 months ago

or even +$700 depending on the dimensions of the "box", "boxes"...

Doplegamer 2 points 10 months ago

Here is my try, yes i know a 6950x is a bit much, there are more than a few reasons for it.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y7rNYr

Chuck38 2 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Reasons. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Because I can, damnit!

Doplegamer 1 point 10 months ago

Reason 1: Man does my house need a new server computer, these old vishera chips are HOT.

Reason 2: Video Editing off of multiple sources and from multiple computers.

Reason 3: Mild gaming on two monitors in separate rooms while recording and editing.

Reason 4: Low Temperatures for multiple massive actions with a(n) quiet air cooler.

Reason 5:(i have never counted this high before.) Its replacing an old editing rig in size, weight and appearance, while still remaining quiet powerful at multitasking.

Even if it wont always be editing video. I need a pc that can work over a server for a small to medium family, and crush these things without relying on a xeon, or similar processor.

SK6Blue 2 Builds 2 points 9 months ago

Im curious, since its been said our contest hosts can see(and I'd assume, will use) the price history graph to confirm builds were less than $3000 when submitted. when I look at the graph of a build that was under 3000 but now above it looks like it has never been below 3000(was about $10 under when submitted).... currently sitting at $3015 but looks like $3300, and doesn't give hover over prices and dates(like the graphs for the individual items do). Is this skewed graph image unique to my browser settings or is it what everyone sees.... Seems to me, unless they recorded the price when it was submitted(which would leave no need to mention the price history graph) they would have to go to the price history of each item in the build and check that graph for the submission date then add up the total. Huge props to MSI if they are going thru all that(or have a script that does, or have a way I dont know of). but anyway, after looking at a few of the part list graphs, it makes me hope people that made builds near the threshold aren't being unintentionally brushed aside. makes me hope its just my browser setting that are throwing of the graphs for me.

Mayank0809 2 points 9 months ago

I too, seem to have the same problem. My graph was waay above $3000 even though the price was more like $2950.

Jerome54 2 points 9 months ago

I think that the price shown is without discounts and rebates.

SK6Blue 2 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

that would make sense, if the part list i was looking at had any discounts or rebates.... nothing

TheOfficialCzex 3 Builds 2 points 9 months ago

I'm sorry if this makes me sound salty, but can we make the future giveaways require at least 3-6 months of forum activity in order for someone to be considered eligible? It frustrates me to see random people happen upon the announcement and promptly create an account just to win. Two of the winners don't even have ten posts between them.

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 7 points 9 months ago

While I understand your sentiment (and putting aside the possible legal issues with your suggestion), a major point of working with partners to put these promotions together is to bring new users to the site as well as our content channels (ie, YouTube/Twitch). While we love that it creates an opportunity for our existing users to possibly win some cool stuff, it would be self-defeating as a promotional effort to limit it to preexisting users.

TheOfficialCzex 3 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

Understood.

Jerome54 4 points 9 months ago

Well that wouldn't be fair at all.
And for one simple reason: just because you don't have an account doesn't mean that you've never visited PCPP before.

In fact, I was checking PCPP every single day for almost 6 months before creating my on account.
And even then, I didn't participate in the community at all. I only created part lists...

So yes, it does seems unfair at first because these "profiles" are new and never collaborated with the community.
But would you deny a prize to a lottery winner that won the first time he/she played? ;-)

jroc74 2 points 9 months ago

Yup, this is exactly what I did. I lurked for the longest, read forums posts, etc. Only that that really made me join was saving part lists and I wanted to leave a comment on a thread.

kuiama2015 2 points 9 months ago

Agree with you. This is the fist time I entered a contest. Read the posts and liked the idea of saving builds.

We all should be glad that MSI did this give-a-ways and the thrill of trying to put a system together to meet a requirement.

Hope MSI or other suppilers do similar ones in the future were there are limits/goals/requiremnts. To me it was fun trying to peice togther a system with requirements/limits and seeing how everyone else was trying to meet them.

Jerome54 1 point 9 months ago

Yes, it was a lot of fun!!

There were similar giweaways before, but it was before the GTX1080 era... ;-)
It was fun too though! :-D

kuiama2015 1 point 9 months ago

good to know. the last time I put a computer together was an intel 386 when I was a teenager. :)

I know what you mean and I understand.
But that's the spirit. It's fair for guys to get lucky even if they just went in.

Cam84 2 Builds 2 points 9 months ago

Ya I lurked awhile before making an account. This site got me hungry to get back into the game after letting my 2011 Build collect dust! It's other reason is to grow this community with new accounts and users. I understand the salty behind seeing a brand new account win and most of it from the saltiness is I wasn't sure if their process weeded out the people making multi entries, but that was explained and cleared up And we now have 3 new pc master race users!

It says The part list must show as compatible on PCPartPicker in the giveaway.

Will Compatibility Check: See notes below. Some Intel X99 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Broadwell-E CPUs. also be accepted?

That should be fine unless it state it not fully compatible.

Will my build still be qualified if it says this: "Some Intel X99 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Broadwell-E CPUs"?

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 3 points 10 months ago

Informational notes like that are fine -- just not compatibility warnings/errors.

Tamriel_Bound 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah, thats completely fine. As long as it doesnt say that parts are 'incompatible'.

tadashi 1 point 10 months ago

This is cool.

LightProtecter 1 point 10 months ago

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Does anybody know what the tax rate needs to be?

eulogy04 1 point 10 months ago

^

macetotheface 1 point 9 months ago

Probably whatever your state charges (if applicable)...outside of that, play it safe and give yourself some breathing room.

156 1 point 9 months ago

Well I asked Boyscout and he told me this:

You can just leave the default value. There's nothing in the rules specifying a particular rate, just that the total price at the bottom of the system page (after taxes, shipping, rebates etc) be the value that is under $3000 USD.

SpiffyJUNIOR 1 point 10 months ago

What am i doing with my life....

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7q69wV

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 10 months ago

i edited my build. will this have any affect? i would really hate to be disqualified because i changed my psu

edit: i accidentally deleted the build altogether like a complete ******* idiot. please tell me theres something i can do. the site says ive used my only entry

tadashi 1 point 10 months ago

It's a permalink, they will still be able to see the original build you provided. I think...

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Changing components once you submitted the permalink doesn't change anything on the build you submitted and it cannot be deleted. Only "Saved Builds" in your profile can be changed or edited. Your original submission should be fine, and editing your System Build doesn't change it.

If you are still using the same PC you originally created the build with and have not logged out, you can get back to your permalink by checking your part list History (upper right, next to "Save As" on the System Build page).

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 10 months ago

good stuff, thank you very much for this clarification. thought i was really boned for a second there

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 10 months ago

actually what i might have sent them was not a permalink but simply a url of the saved parts list. mostly because i had no clue how to permalink and didn't know what it was until this point :/

ChocolateLovin69 1 point 10 months ago

like i said, huge idiot i am

I've submitted my build with complete with prices. now upon checking, seems my mouse is missing a price and currently out of stock. :(

will that be still counted as valid entry?

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

That's fine. If it was available when submitted, chances are it will be available again at the end of the giveaway. But if a component is unavailable when the giveaway period ends, MSI may work with the winner to select a comparable alternative.

click312 1 point 10 months ago

please confirm :( my dreamssss. XD

oh crap I entered before I saw this and didn't know it had to include tax.

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

That simply refers to the total listed at the bottom of the System Build page, not for you to necessarily do anything special.

Darth_Venator 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

ok thanks for the reply.

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

If you can, then why not?I think, you your build can cost up to 3000dollars.

jtrier1 1 point 10 months ago

Because I don't need to. This rig will do whatever I need it to do without any problems.

eopest 8 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Ah... but this is about dreams, not mere needs. ;)

jtrier1 1 point 10 months ago

Well my dreams may already be dashed. My submission somehow got deleted the other night from my saved parts list. Contacted mods and contest holders and both said there wasn't anything they could do. I submitted another list, but I doubt it will do any good.

why 480 crossfire though? and get a bigger and better SSD?

I feel like I went a lot more reasonable than other people's builds.

I'm buying Two more 480's if I win and I'm gonna put carbon fiber on the SSD's, paint the PCI SSD, the yellow marks on the motherboard, and the GPUS green.

I didn't realize this board had an M.2 slot! That 8350 will still bottleneck the two RX 480s. If Zen wasn't supposed to be coming out, I might even save up money to build your config.

Sonuchi 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

It does! It's one of MSI's latest ones that just came out in Oct/Nov. I've been keeping my eye on it since it does the RGB LED lights and all.

Also, yeah. I figured bottlenecking would happen, but I'm likely going to use one of the RX 480s somewhere else if I need to.

Lastly, thanks! I'm happy to hear that someone would want to build a rig off of my configuration. This one here is off a config build similar to this but with one 480. It's also supposed to have a 500 GB SSD but I got it during black Friday, so I removed it from my build to get a better calculation.

There are three boxes on my shelves right now: a K9N SLI Platinum, a 970A-G46, and a K9N6PGM2-V2. Guess what they all have in common: that's right, they're all MSI boards I've built with over the years. The board in the box I'm using to write this is a 970 GAMING. But if I have to create a Facebook login and "like" MSI to enter, then well, I concede the contest to the rest of you (or jipster69, whoever has the best shot). I have no plans to ever give away my privacy to Zuckerberg & Cronies to sell as they see fit. Good luck you guys (and gals), I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Jerome54 2 points 10 months ago

You don't need a Facebook account to enter... but Twitter yes! :-)

Mabye you could try liquid cooling instead of the 212 evo. Mabye one like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dz648d/deepcool-captain-240ex-white-1530-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-captain-240ex-white

Renfist 1 point 10 months ago

I honestly thought about liquid cooling but inexperience told me to take the safe route. I would hate to fry that beautiful set up. This would be my first true build from scratch. I've replaced laptop monitors, processors etc.. yet never had anything liquid cooled. Spent most of my life staring at 15 fps till my son sent me this tower that sits next to me. Bought me an a8 7600 with an r7 and boy did my eye's open when I seen WoW running at 40fps lol. Two months later legion launched and I wished I had spent the extra money for something a little stronger. It still does some light gaming but many of the titles I own it doesn't play without me pulling my hair out lol.

RebelAndroid 1 point 10 months ago
Renfist 1 point 10 months ago

Good point. Guess I didn't look deeper into the cooling that one looks pretty good. Thanks for the advice

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

It needs to be under $3000 at time of submission. As others have mentioned, if it goes up after submitting, some allowance will be made.

Nope, it's not allowed!
Unless prices fluctuate within the next days and it goes under the $3000 mark. ;-)

The rules (http://woobox.com/offers/rules/qmuf4e) state that they will allow builds that fluctuate in price after submission (within reason). Before hand I'm sure they'd accept $0.48.
