What's the thought process that went behind the game choices for this bench? Ashes and Tomb Raider are easy picks given everyone does them, Hitman seems to be the AMD magic game, and... DotA?

Jesus that's the cleanest build I've seen in... forever! And I thought I did well with my Core V1 a while back! Solid build OP!

Great build for the price! I feel your pain in that case, it's a rough time in there (my first build was in that exact case - it has now been retired). I wouldn't worry so much about the PSU - you're hardly stressing it with an i3 and 750Ti.

The Snowball made the list! I'm flattered! Glad to see mITX is getting love in this thread!

It's an honor! I'll be sure to take a look at the others on that list!

Trial and error is what it took. Lots of wrecked zipties, too. I was so disappointed in my last build that I was determined to do right to this one!

The CPU/Mobo was purchased originally in Feb 2014, the i5-4690K didn't come out until the summer.

The details panel shows absolute values, where I list the temperatures in the description as "above ambient".

I wouldn't worry about splurging on the case - it's an investment. If you like the formfactor and how it looks, that case will live through far more than your first build. Good build!

Not sure about AUD, but the 16GB kit over Black Friday/Cyber Monday was on sale for $90CAD where the 1600MHz kit was $105CAD. I bought some myself. If the higher clocked stuff is cheaper go for it.

What made you decide to keep the 200mm fan in the front instead of the included 120mm? I know the cooler is overkill for a non-k CPU but I would assume that having the off-centre 200mm fan would reduce the AIO's performance.

I'm trying to find out for my next build - which will include this case and a 140mm AIO cooler.

Agreed. The Corsair CX PSUs aren't dumpster fires, but they're not great either. I have 3 PSUs from them (two CX500 and a CSM650) and all have done well.

I own two CX500 units and they've both performed well in gaming systems (in my 4670k/770 and my girlfriend's FX6300/760). My unit even held up to some (accidental, I meant to revert them) overclocks on the i5 and 770 while I was RMA'ing my newer 650W unit. They're not horrible dumpster-tier PSUs and if it works for OP it's fine.

Comment reply on abeconcept's Completed Build: Thermaltake Core V1 Snow (white) edition

Two things:

  1. I had no idea the Core V1 came in white! I'm trying to keep my eye out for a new mITX case and this could seal it for me! EDIT: Of course I had no idea it comes in white (Snow) - I can't find it at any retailer in Canada :(

  2. Your PSU is listed as "Semi-Modular" yet you have custom cables on it - isn't the 24pin and 4+4pin CPU built into the PSU itself? Did you have to ship off your PSU to get it sleeved?

How's the Hyper Evo 212 treating you in that case? I'm migrating my current build to the N200 as well, and I want to start overclocking my i5 4670K. How was fitting it in the case? How's the temperatures?

I'll fix it at some point, probably when I decide to overclock and replace the HSF with something that's not stock.

It was early on in the planning stage where I found myself not getting what I wanted out of it for the cash I was setting aside. Eventually I told myself that I'd get something I'd be happy with, even if I had to dip into the pot a little more.
