from completed build Clean Video Editing Desktop

I spent a lot of time researching different motherboards to find one with the exact features I wanted. I chose the ASUS PRIME B660M-A D4 and have been extremely happy with the board. I wanted 4 RAM slots, onboard RGB controller, a LAN chipset that was not Realtek based, and I did not want on-board WiFi as the computer will always be hardwired with a LAN cable.

My old board would only hit download speeds of 60-80 Mb/s on Google and Ookla speed tests, even though I have 600 MB cable Internet service. I learned from multiple discussions on Reddit that Realtek LANs generally have poor performance. I wanted an Intel Gigabit LAN chipset, and this board has the Intel I219-V which is an excellent performer and hits 600 MB/s with Ookla Speed Test for me.

The board has a single USB 3.2 Gen 1 front-panel connector and a single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector, which is perfectly matched to the NZXT H510 Flow case that I chose.

There are ample fan and RGB headers, though I ended up using an ARGB controller from be quiet! to handle all of the case fans.

Not the best looking motherboard ever, but it definitely does get the job done.

Works great, though it could use more fan headers. Oh well, I worked around it.

A decent board for a decent price, but I wish that nvme support came out of the box and it had more fan headers.

I chose the Asus B660 board because it's just good enough for a 12 gen i5 on it, no plans of upgrading to something like 13th gen i7 on this. Also this particular one has USB-C headers on the board. One of the reason I chose Asus is because of past experience with the Asus mobo, this one has decent review too. Also, Asus might be a better company to deal with in terms of RMA. It cost a bit more to get the ATX version (Prime B660 Plus), kinda wanted that one because it has 2.5 gigabit ethernet (I don't have that fast internet yet, but who knows, I might upgrade).
